Roadworthy Certificate (RWC)
Looking for a roadworthy inspection station? SBK Automotive is a licenced inspection station and can issue roadworthy certificates for vehicles that pass the assessment. Whether you’re renewing the registration on an older car, selling a car and needing a roadworthy certificate to complete the sale, or you’re thinking about buying a used car and want to check its current roadworthiness, we can help.
What’s a RWC and when do I need one?A roadworthy certificate is proof that a registered vehicle has passed a safety inspection to ensure it meets the minimum safety requirements and is safe to drive on public roads. Roadworthy certificates are required in all Australian states and territories, and there are several reasons why one is needed, such as:
- Registration renewal – If your vehicle is more than five years old, it will likely need a roadworthy certificate before registration is approved. You’ll also need a roadworthy certificate if you’re renewing the registration of a vehicle that’s been unregistered for any period.
- Selling a car – A roadworthy licence is required at any time that ownership of a vehicle is transferred. This means you’ll need one when selling a car or even when transferring ownership between family members..
- Clearing a vehicle defect or un-roadworthiness notice – If your car has been issued a Vehicle Defect Notice or a Notice of Un-Roadworthiness, you’ll need to obtain a roadworthy certificate to re-register it..
Roadworthy certificates can only be issued by licenced inspection stations and are valid for one month. This means you must register your vehicle within this time frame.
